History of the unification of Greater Nepal

The present territory of Nepal was divided into many small kingdoms before the unification campaign. King Prithivi Narayan Shah, inspired by his father, the then-king of Gorkha, Nara Bhupal Shah, started the unification of greater Nepal. Nara Bhupal Shah tried to extend his kingdom by capturing Nuwakot but failed. After his death, Prithvi Narayan Shah, his elder son, continued the annexation and conquered Nuwakot and even Kathmandu Valley.
